This summer’s record-breaking heatwaves and droughts in Hungary led to the near shutdown of the country’s nuclear power plant, which usually provides about 40% of the nation’s power supply. In this extraordinary situation, the Hungarian government issued a call for action towards companies and the population alike to help maintain the stability of the electricity grid.

In response, as part of the company’s energy-saving efforts, Yettel Hungary introduced a mandatory one-week home office for all employees whose roles allow remote work - including the entire customer service team. This allowed Yettel to temporarily close its office building in Törökbálint. The company also temporarily switched off the digital TV displays in its shops during the affected period.

This move reduced energy consumption at the mobile operator’s headquarters in Törökbálint and across its retail network for as long as the extreme weather conditions required. By joining the nationwide call for energy conservation, the company also supported the responsible use of energy in Hungary. The measures did not affect the continuity of mobile services, which remained fully operational throughout the period.
