Yettel Hungary launched a pilot scheme to sell premium second-hand smartphones to promote more sustainable handset use.
Yettel wanted to offer its existing and new customers a greener and more cost-effective alternative to buying a new mobile phone. The company started the pilot by selling only A+-rated used iPhones. This meant that the smartphones were offered in near-new condition and underwent a comprehensive 56-point inspection, including checks of the battery, display, and functionality, as well as a full data erasure guarantee.
In addition to encouraging the purchase of usable second-hand handsets, Yettel ran several popular used handset collection campaigns that resulted in more than 13 tonnes of handsets being returned to stores by customers over the previous three years. The sale of high-quality, tested second-hand phones represented the next step in this environmentally conscious direction.
After the pilot period, the sale of refurbished smartphones became an integral part of Yettel's services.
