Environment

Reducing the Group’s environmental impact

The Group recognises the necessity to preserve a healthy, undamaged environment for both current and future generations. We have adopted policies to reduce the environmental impact of our operations across the entire value chain, with a focus on improving energy efficiency, expanding our use of renewable energy, and advancing circular approaches to resource management. We also leverage technology to drive environmental transformation and support our progress toward net-zero operations.

Our Focus:

  • Reducing absolute emissions and emissions intensity

  • Reducing the waste generated by our operations and supporting the circular economy through the refurbishment, reuse, and responsible recycling of electronic equipment

Our Targets:

  • Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% from a 2022 base year (Target year: 2030)

  • Reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions (purchased goods and services, capital goods, and fuel- and energy-related activities) by 25% from a 2022 base year (Target year: 2030)

  • Ensure that 100% of decommissioned equipment is reused, resold, or sent for recycling in a responsible manner (Target year: Ongoing)

  • Reach a 20% return rate at sale of new mobile phones by 2030 (Target year: 2030)

  • Prevent 22,000 kg of e-waste from going to landfill each year through customer-focused initiatives (Target year: Ongoing)

  • Climate targets set in alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

We are committed to protecting our customers through robust cybersecurity and data privacy measures, and to advancing digital inclusion through targeted education and skills programmes, empowering people to use technology safely and effectively.

Our Focus:

  • Bridging the digital divide by providing reliable and accessible connectivity

  • Promoting digital literacy and online safety, particularly for children and families

  • Safeguarding cybersecurity and protecting customer data

  • Deploying technology, including AI, responsibly and transparently

Our Targets:

  • Provide 5G connectivity to at least 80% of the population in the countries where we operate (Target year: 2027)

  • Train 300,000 people (teachers, children, and adults) in digital skills - cumulative (Target year: 2022-2025)

  • Deliver data protection/security solutions to at least 30% of the Group’s applicable postpaid consumer segment customers (Target year: 2025)

Responsible corporate governance is central to our sustainability efforts, ensuring long-term stakeholder value through trust, responsible sourcing, and strict anti-corruption and anti-bribery policies. We apply rigorous standards to the selection of our suppliers, giving preference to partners who meet high social and environmental expectations, and working with our supply chain to continuously raise standards where needed.
